a great weekend!

This whole weekend was pretty great :) Yesterday we got together to play - there were only a few of us who showed up, but there were some new faces :) We met at the library, and a player named Frank, rank 2dan, schooled me in more ways than one! He found out about the club by seeing the poster around town, emailed me, and finally we played a game. I got crushed even taking a 5 stone handicap - I think I need 8 or 9 against him - and we reviewed it thoroughly afterwards (I was amazed at his ability to recreate the board positions, move for move) and I think in that single game/review I clued into a big part of what I've been missing all this time. I'm trying to do too much at once! I routinely make the mistake of switching back and forth between attempts to capture a corner and get dominating influence in the center at the same time...I'm just greedy, I guess...

I've played Go for years but I'm still not a very good player - I've never really had the opportunity to be shown what to do quite like that :) It was awesome - Thank you, Frank!

Afterwards I went over to my friend Steve's place, we played several games - and both of us seemed to improve somewhat after being shown all of that stuff earlier :) And then...I finally showed him Hikaru no Go, something I had been meaning to do forever - and then proceeded to play even more Go... ;) I need to play more.

here it is :)

Having started the Quinte Go Club here recently in sunny, tropical Belleville, Ontario, Canada, I thought I'd create this page as a local resource of sorts - just to keep track of what kind of progress we're making :)

Thus far we're less a 'club' and more a 'network of local Go players' and hopefully this little blog will track the progress from the former to the latter. :)
